What does a vegetarian do?

A vegetarian does not eat meat but will often still have other animal products in their diet.

The diet of a vegetarian usually consists of vegetables and grains and fruit, nuts, seeds and beans. They may avoid certain things such as meat, fish, poultry and sometimes eggs. However, a vegan will not eat any animal products, including dairy and eggs. This means they will not eat bread, cakes, biscuits or any food with animal fat.

Vegetarian diets may be healthier than non-vegetarian diets. They can be low in saturated fat and cholesterol and high in fiber, vitamins C and E and folic acid.

As a general rule of thumb, vegetables that grow above the ground are healthy, but those that grow below ground are not as healthy.

Vegetarians tend to be thinner, have lower cholesterol and lower death rates from heart disease than meat-eaters.

Some of the many benefits include better health, less chance of heart disease or cancer, and a lower risk for other diseases such as diabetes.

Vegan recipes and food, in general, is usually much healthier than non-vegan recipes and food. Vegans don't eat any animal products, including milk, eggs, butter, or other dairy items. This means that vegan dishes are generally low in cholesterol and saturated fat without the risk of heart conditions such as heart attacks or high blood pressure which can be caused by eating fatty meat such as bacon or ham. Vegan dishes also contain much higher levels of fibre than flesh foods, so if you ever find yourself with a stomach upset, it's an easy way to stop it reoccurring. Vegan dishes are also very healthy for children because they're often high in protein and calcium, which is important for growing bodies and healthy teeth and bones. Vegans

Vegetarian diets can be healthy, as a vegetarian diet can contain a variety of vegetables and fruits. Vegetarianism is also very beneficial for those with certain diets such as veganism which excludes all animal products from the diet. It can be followed as part of the vegan lifestyle or as a personal choice by those who want to lead a healthier lifestyle. However, vegetarianism may not be healthy for those who rely on meat, eggs and dairy products from their diet for nutrition including calcium and protein intake.
